This action-packed scene symbolizes the new challenges and opportunities that players encounter in DayZ after the latest updates. With updates 1.24 and 1.25, survivors have even more to work with—from powerful weapons to improved sound and atmosphere.
Highlights from update 1.24
In February 2024, update 1.24 arrived as the first stable patch of the year, focusing on improving the foundation for future news. Although 1.24 wasn't as "flashy" as later updates, it still brought exciting additions and important improvements:
- New weapon: SR-3M Vikhr – A compact Russian automatic rifle (9×39 mm) was introduced along with an accompanying 30-round magazine. It gives players a new way to take down zombies and enemies at close range.
- Tactical equipment – New camouflage variants of the ballistic helmet were added, allowing you to better blend in with your surroundings and remain unnoticed.
- Expanded game world – The Livonia map got an overhaul at the Lukow airbase, which was updated and improved. This gives survivors even more to explore in one of DayZ's most lush areas.
- Better server experience – The update officially introduced support for Linux server files, which is great news for all of us who host DayZ servers. This makes it easier to run stable community servers. In addition, 1.24 offered a host of bug fixes and adjustments that improved the stability and balance of the game.
Update 1.25 – more atmosphere and new experiences
Bohemia Interactive continued to build on the success of 1.24 and released update 1.25 in May 2024. This time, there was a strong focus on atmosphere and sound. The most notable addition was the long-awaited background music in the game. Around 70 minutes of new, dynamic ambient tracks – composed by Czech musician Dikolson – now play discreetly as you explore Chernarus and Livonia. The music adapts to the time of day and the area you are in, intensifying the atmosphere whether you are sneaking through a foggy forest or looting an abandoned town.
The new ambient music tracks in update 1.25 make moments like this even more atmospheric for players. Even when you're alone in the wilderness, the silence is now accompanied by subtle melodies that make the post-apocalyptic world feel even more alive. That's immersion in action!
But update 1.25 wasn't just about sound. We also got new toys in our arsenal in the form of a new sniper rifle (VS-89) with a 10-round magazine. This bolt-action rifle—known as the SV-98 in real life—allows for precise long-range attacks, so you can eliminate threats from a distance before they spot you.
Furthermore, 1.25 marked a new era for the Livonia map, which was now made free for all owners of the main game. From now on, the Livonia DLC is included in the base game, meaning that the entire community can explore the lush forests and deserted villages of the Nadbór region at no extra cost. This move was met with cheers from the community and ensures that even more players can enjoy everything Livonia has to offer.
To top it all off, 1.25 also offered a long list of improvements and bug fixes under the hood. Here are some of the most important ones:
- Limited the use of items in containers via quickslots to prevent items from disappearing from the inventory.
- Improved synchronization of the player's position with the server (fewer cases of getting stuck in doorways, etc.).
- Added a new crash reporter on PC that helps developers identify and fix problems faster.
All in all, updates 1.24 and 1.25 have significantly enhanced the DayZ experience. The game world feels more alive and complete, and both survivors and server administrators have been given new tools to play with. Bohemia Interactive has already teased the next 1.26 update as well as the upcoming DayZ: Frostline expansion with a winter map – exciting times lie ahead for us fans. Until then, there is plenty to dive into with the latest updates.
