Important: Hytale is currently in Early Access. Mods can cause instability. We always recommend taking a backup of your world ("universe" folder) before installing new mods.

Introduction

Modding your Hytale server opens up a whole new world of possibilities, from new weapons and furniture to advanced server plugins. With us, you have two ways to install mods: via our automatic Game Panel (recommended for beginners) or Manually via FTP (for advanced users).

Method 1: Automatic Installation via Game Panel

Our Game Panel is integrated directly with CurseForge, making it easy to find and install safe mods with a single click.

  1. Log in to your Game Panel.
  2. Navigate to your server and click the Stop button to turn off the server completely.
  3. In the menu on the left, click on "Hytale Mods".
  4. Use the search field to find the mod you want (e.g., "Advanced Item Info").
  5. Click on Install. The system will now download the latest version that matches your server.
  6. When the installation is complete, go back to Console and start the server.

Tip: If a mod requires other mods to work (dependencies), our panel will often install these automatically. However, always check the mod description to be sure.

Method 2: Manual Installation (FTP)

If you have developed your own mod, or have downloaded a file that is not found in our Mod Manager, you can install it manually. You will need an FTP client like FileZilla or use the panel's built-in "File Manager".

Step 1: Prepare the File

Download your mod. This will typically be a .zip file (for assets/mods) or a .jar file (for plugins).

WARNING: Do NOT extract (unzip) the file! The server reads directly from the .zip archive. If you extract it to a folder, the mod will not work.

Step 2: Upload to the Server

  1. Connect to your server via FTP (your login details can be found under "Settings" in the panel).
  2. Open the folder named mods. If it does not exist, you must create it (in lowercase).
  3. Drag your .zip or .jar file into this folder.
  4. Ensure that the file is located directly in mods/ and not inside a subfolder.

Step 3: Enabling "Early Plugins" (Advanced)

Some plugins require special permissions to run. If you install a server plugin (.jar) and the server crashes on startup, you may need to enable "Early Plugins".

  • Go to the "Startup" tab in the Game Panel.
  • Find the "Accept Early Plugins" setting and set it to On (or add --accept-early-plugins to the startup line).

Step 4: Restart

Start your server and keep an eye on the console. You should see messages like [ModLoader] Loaded mod: Name. If you see error messages, please check our troubleshooting guide or contact our support.
