Introduction

Having to remember a port number (e.g., :25582) after your server IP can be troublesome for your players. By setting up a domain or subdomain, your players can simply type myserver.pineriver.net or play.yourdomain.com.

This guide covers two methods:

  • Method 1: Use our Gamepanel (Easiest - if you don't have your own domain).
  • Method 2: Use your own domain (Requires access to DNS administration).

Method 1: Setup via Gamepanel

This method is perfect if you want an easy address quickly and for free by using one of our domains.

  1. Log in to our Gamepanel and go to your server.

  2. In the left-hand menu, click on the Minecraft Utils tab.

  3. Then click on the box named Subdomain.

Find Minecraft Utils and Subdomain in the panel

  1. Enter the name you want in the "Subdomain" field (e.g., myserver) and choose one of the domains from the list on the right (e.g., mcserver.dk).

  2. Click Create.

Create your subdomain

Note: It may take up to 5-10 minutes for the domain to work, as the DNS system needs to update.

Method 2: Setup with Your Own Domain

If you have purchased your own domain (e.g., from Simply, Cloudflare, or similar), you need to set up DNS records manually with your provider. To remove the port number, you need to use an SRV Record.

Step 1: Find your server IP and Port

  • Go to the overview of your server in the Gamepanel.

  • Note your Server Address (e.g., 192.168.1.1:25566). Here, 192.168.1.1 is your IP, and 25566 is your port.

Step 2: Create an A Record

Log in to your domain provider and find the DNS administration.

  1. Create a new record of type A.

  2. Name/Host: Enter the subdomain you want to use, e.g., play (so the address becomes play.yourdomain.com). If it should be the main domain itself, type @.

  3. Value/Target: Insert the server's IP address (WITHOUT the port number).

  4. Save your record.

Example of A Record setup

Step 3: Create an SRV Record (Removes the port number)

This step tells Minecraft which port the server is running on, so players don't have to type it.

  1. Create a new record of type SRV.

  2. Fill in the fields as follows (naming may vary slightly between providers):

    • Service: _minecraft
    • Protocol: _tcp
    • Name/Host: The same as you wrote in the A-record (e.g., play or @).
    • Priority: 0
    • Weight: 5
    • Port: Your server's port number (e.g., 25566).
    • Target: The full name of your A-record (e.g., play.yourdomain.com).
  3. Save your record.

Example of SRV Record setup

Important: When changing DNS, it can take anywhere from 10 minutes to 24 hours for the changes to propagate worldwide.
